My Travels
March 12, 2010, we arrived in San Diego for a 17 day sojourn to California and Hawaii. The photo along the left represents the Life Magazine photograph taken on VE Day taken in 1945.
People attended a dedication ceremony for a 25-foot-tall, 6,000-pound sculpture called “Unconditional Surrender” near Tuna Harbor in downtown San Diego. J. Seward Johnson created the artwork of a sailor kissing a nurse based on a photo taken on the day World War II ended. For the next year, the sculpture will stand next to the USS Midway Museum.
